Some <b>125</b> <b>teams</b> including a record 42 coed doubles and for the first time ever, 7 women’s teams competed all summer long at beautiful Sinatra Park in ten different divisions for the right to play for it all this week. <br> </span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing: -.15pt">With as many as <b><i>18 nets </i></b>stretched across the entire field<b><i>,</i></b></span><b><i><span style="color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> </span> <span style="font-size:24.0pt; font-family:"Freestyle Script";color:red;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Spike League’s</span></i></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> most successful and popular season was the talk of the town and the volleyball community in the NJ/NY area. </span> <span style="color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph"> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing: -.15pt">Among the teams to watch in the playoffs tonight will be returning top coed division champs, <b>Laurel and JJ</b> who will have to defend their title against powered teams such as <b>Donna/Mike. </b>Those two teams have a pair of fresh legs up on the other four teams who qualified with a bye into the semifinals. Those teams will have to show stamina as well as skill in a possible three set volley marathon to the winner’s podium.  </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph"> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing: -.15pt">The </span><b> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:green;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Double Down</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> division also featured a deep cast of quality teams and with 8 qualifying; the competition should be intense even for top seeds <b>Alyssa/Dave</b> and <b> Jaime/Ayman. </b> Strategy as much as skill could very well determine the division winner here. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph"> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing: -.15pt">Our newest coed division, </span><b> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#00CCFF;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Hubby</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black; letter-spacing:-.15pt">/</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:fuchsia;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Wife</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> featured 15 enthusiastic, highly motivated teams that have no doubt been staying up late night or Tivo-ing the beach volleyball play from Athens in an attempt to gain an edge. While teams such as <b>Cindy/Macelon</b> and <b>Beate/Max </b> feature very strong male players, the steady play of  <b>Carrie/Perry</b> combining her strong play and his great hustle have made them the team to beat. Even the unfortunate departure of #3 seed <b>Beate/Max</b> does little to lessen the talent level in this division. </span><b> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:blue;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Chris Hanlon</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> and his late season replacement </span> <span style="font-size:12.0pt; color:fuchsia;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Kristin</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt; color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> are yet another team to be reckoned with. The loss of Brooke to injury for team <b>Brooke/Cary</b> in the last week of the season has hurt that teams chances as </span> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Cary tries to mesh with his last minute replacement. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph"> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing: -.15pt">In the Quad divisions, the </span><b> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:green;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Castaway</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> division may have the least experienced teams in the league but certainly not the hardest trying. A great case in point: <b>Worldwide Spike</b>. Captain </span><b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;color:blue;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Declan Burke</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> spun his wheels in the early going just getting teammates for his team often left only with Jorge to partner up with. But perseverance paid off and now the team is poised in first place to battle it out with top finishers like <b>Texas Arizona</b> and veteran teams such as <b>A Shore Thing</b>. But this is the playoffs and play will have to be cleaned up in order for teams to pass muster tonight and that can go a long way to determining the division’s best.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph"> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing: -.15pt">The </span><b> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:green;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Boardwalk</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> division had a record 20 teams which were split into two pools from which a total of 8 teams qualified for a 3 match playoffs worthy of the ancient Greeks. So many quality teams are in the playoff hunt that this division title will be very hard fought. However, team <b>Deep Dish</b> has been doing it all summer as have the <b>We Dig</b> crew and both teams are ready for all challenges facing them. <b>Eurotrash</b> has come a long way in getting their team together, <b> Pfeffer</b> has taken clinics to improve not only their team game but also their play as individuals and <b>Bumpin’ Uglies</b> will not make it a pretty for their foes as long as they are in it. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph"> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing: -.15pt">It’s going to be hotter than the sands of </span> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Athens in the </span><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:green; letter-spacing:-.15pt">Sunscreen</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> division as the top 4 teams in this division battle for the crown. Anu’s Avengers team was dealt a tough blow with the ankle injury to team MVP <b>Randy Robles</b> but the team has great depth. They’ll need it against the </span><b> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#6600CC; letter-spacing:-.15pt">Purple Cobras</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> who feature two of the best players in the division in </span><b> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:blue;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Bryan Fitter</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> and </span><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:blue; letter-spacing:-.15pt">Macelon D’Sa</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt">. The Earmuffs play hard every point and </span><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:blue; letter-spacing:-.15pt">Clay Carlson’s</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt; color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> has quietly assembled a strong hitting team. He sets them up; they spike ‘em down. There should be some real fireworks in this division. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph"> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing: -.15pt"> Wednesday night’s action closes out the season with strong play by the </span><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:green; letter-spacing:-.15pt">Muscle</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:green;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> </span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:green; letter-spacing:-.15pt">Beach</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:blue;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> </span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;letter-spacing:-.15pt">division teams. <b> <span style="color:black">Bitch Slap</span></b> hits so hard they could get arrested but rival <b><span style="color:black">Choice Hops</span><span style="color:blue"> </span></b><span style="color:black">knows them well. Both <b>Ref’s Revenge</b> and <b>Dodge This</b> have retooled their lineups and look ready to upset the frontrunners. </span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph"> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing: -.15pt">The </span><b> <span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:green;letter-spacing:-.15pt">Downtown</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black;letter-spacing:-.15pt"> division graduates 6 teams to the finals out of 12 with the top two seeds, <b> Notorious D.I.G</b> and <b>Heavy Dinkers</b> getting a bye into semi-final action.
